Well, we have some carrot sprouts! Woo Hoo! They are cute and little like every other plant we've had! Our potatoes are really starting take off so tomorrow, we are going to hill them up. It looks like all of our watermelon has died and we only have a few melons left...we'll see if they can make it!!
Do any of you have advice on how often to water a garden? I have been doing some research on it and I was wondering if any seasoned gardeners out their had any tips! I have read that every 3-5 days is a good amount of time (weather and temperatures taken into account). I just don't want to starve the plants or over-water them... there is a reason I don't have many plants in my house....;)

3-5 days is a good amount. As they age and adapt to the garden & weather the plants will do ok with less water than you would think.
Some main signs to look for are yellowing leaves = too much water (usually) and wilting leaves = too little water (don't be scared if this happens, a little water and all will be ok again!).
Key thing to remember - only water when there is no chance the plants will burn, like after/before the sun isn't shining directly on the plants.
Oh and you'll water more efficiently and more thoroughly if you use soaker hoses instead of spraying. Not me - I like to spray! =)
I have read that soaking is a better method of watering plants as well. Mostly we use a sprayer but Diana has a sprinkler so maybe that would work better? And we always water in the evening- after our kids are in bed!
I thought yellowing leaves meant that the plant was getting TOO much water....
Thanks, Anne M.!
You should water early in the morning if you can. Before the sun gets up, and the ground is still nice and cool so the plants can get a nice drink of water for their day. Night times often lead to fungus issues, especially here where it's so humid already. (south carolina)
